INTRODUCTION
The receptor, for vitamin D3, known as VDR is a type of receptor for carrying out the genetic effects of active vitamin D called 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol). Its main function is to act as a transcription factor that responds to molecules (ligands) by forming a complex with another receptor called X receptor when bound to calcitriol. This complex then binds to regions within the DNA of target genes known as vitamin response elements. As a result it triggers changes in gene expression by recruiting molecules involved in gene transcription. VDR activation directly or indirectly influences hundreds of genes related to cell growth control, differentiation processes, metabolism regulation and immune system functions.
Among the genes affected by vitamin D3 receptor activity are those involved in promoting calcium absorption like TRPV6 and calbindin. Additionally VDR increases the production of RANKL which helps in the formation of osteoclasts for bone resorption and releasing calcium from bones. At the time it stimulates the production of osteocalcin and osteopontin which aid in bone formation by supporting osteoblasts activities. Through these mechanisms VDR signaling ensures calcium levels within the body while maintaining bone health. Moreover it also plays a role in modulating both adaptive immunity responses well as exerting anti proliferative effects on certain cells. It even has an influence on processes, like hair growth cycles and expression of peptides.
INTENDED USE
Human vitamin D3 receptor ELISA kit can measure concentrations of signal transducer and activator of VDR (vitamin D3 receptor, nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor, vitamin D receptor, vitamin D1) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
