STXBP1, also referred to as syntaxin binding protein 1 is a component involved in the release of neurotransmitters, from neurons. Its main function is to control the assembly of SNARE complexes which are responsible for vesicle fusion and exocytosis. When STXBP1 malfunctions, it can lead to disorders.

Specifically, STXBP1 interacts with syntaxin proteins located on the neurons target plasma membrane. This interaction allows STXBP1 to regulate the formation of SNARE complexes involving syntaxin, SNAP 25 and synaptobrevin 2. These SNARE proteins work together to bring the vesicle and plasma membrane close facilitating membrane fusion and enabling neurotransmitter release into the synapse.

In the absence of STXBP1 function SNARE complex assembly becomes uncontrolled resulting in impaired neurotransmission. Mutations in STXBP1 have been associated with neurodevelopmental conditions. For instance, insufficient levels of STXBP1 can lead to disability epilepsy and features similar to autism. Recent studies have also revealed that certain de novo missense mutations that are linked to epilepsy and encephalopathy.


Human STXBP1 ELISA kit can measure concentrations of syntaxin-binding protein 1 (STXBP1, MUNC18, N Sec1, p67, Unc18A) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.


All reagents supplied need to be stored at 2 °C – 8 °C, unopened reagents will retain reactivity until expiration date. Do not use reagents beyond this date.
