FGL1 ELISA Kit (Fibrinogen Like Protein 1)

Full Name: FGL1 ELISA Kit (Fibrinogen Like Protein 1)
Reactivity: Human
Sample Type: Plasma, Tissue Homogenates, Serum, Biological Fluids
Sensitivity: 0.375 ng/ml

INTRODUCTION

Fibrinogen like protein 1 (FGL1) belongs to a family of proteins called fibrinogen related proteins. Initially identified as a protein secreted by liver cells FGL1 has been found to have functions depending on where it’s located. The FGL1 gene produces two versions through a process called splicing. When it is formed FGL1 acts as a factor involved in blood clotting whereas in its membrane bound form it plays a role, in regulating the system.

The soluble version of FGL1 is released by liver cells and shares similarities with the gamma chain of fibrinogen. Additionally, FGL1 directly converts prothrombin into thrombin without the involvement of factor Xa, which contributes to the buildup of fibrin in the liver during acute liver failure.

On the hand the membrane bound form of FGL1 is found on T cells and macrophages. It exerts effects by triggering programmed cell death (apoptosis) in CD4+ and CD8+ effector T cells. This mechanism helps limit the expansion of T cells and prevents the development of reactions. Disruption or irregular regulation of immune FGL1 on T cells has been associated with hepatitis autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis as well as pregnancy related complications such, as abortion.

INTENDED USE

Human FGL1 ELISA kit can measure concentrations of fibrinogen-like protein 1 (FGL1, HP-041, HFREP-1, Hepassocin, LFIRE-1) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
