FABP4 ELISA Kit (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 4)

Full Name: FABP4 ELISA Kit (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 4)
Reactivity: Human
Sample Type: Plasma, Serum, Cell Culture Supernatant
Sensitivity: 0.39 ng/ml

INTRODUCTION

Inflammation and energy metabolism are regulated by the fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4). It is an integral membrane protein which contains 662 amino acids and has a molecular weight of circa 88 thousand Daltons. In patients with acute myocardial infarction, the levels are increased in the blood and correlate with mortality. High FABP4 plasma levels are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease in people without a history of heart disease. In mice, it has been found that knock down expression of FABP4 by RNA interference leads to hyperactivity, anxiety-like behaviours and lowered metabolic efficiency. The gene is localized on chromosome 6 in humans, and it belongs to the family of genes encoding fibrobaphes that are involved in lipid transport and metabolism.

The human FABP4 gene has been found on chromosome 9 in a cluster with other genes coding for FABPs including FABP5 and FABP8. It has four domains that include a P-loop, an A-loop, two C-terminal tails. The P-loop domain is composed of three loops on the N terminus and contains six cysteine residues that are involved in disulfide bridge formation. This loop connects two helices H3 and Q3 with one another, which are part of the A-loop domain; the second helix is connected to loop E by a loop H2. The structure and function are directly related to its role in transporting lipids through cell membranes. FABP4 helps cells with their metabolic processes by allowing for movement of fat molecules within cells; this also allows for subsequent synthesis or usage of nutrients.

INTENDED USE

Human FABP4 ELISA kit is designed to measure levels of human fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) present in plasma, serum or cell supernatant samples.

I carried out a pilot study comparing the performance of many ELISA assay's from different suppliers and found your kits to be one of the better performers. We observed good linearity and tight replicates.
