BACKGROUND

Angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3) is gaining attention recently due to its potential role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. This member of the angiopoietin-like family of secreted factors influences lipid metabolism, inflammation and vascular remodelling. ANGPTL3 is released by endothelial cells into the vascular wall and functions as a cytokine/s in response to mechanical stress, oxidised low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and inflammatory cytokines. Levels of ANGPTL3 are increased in patients with atherosclerotic disease. There is evidence that intestinal expression of ANGPTL3 may be a potential biomarker for cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, lipid accumulation or triglycerides.

ANGPTL3 is produced by the kidneys, heart and adipose tissue. It circulates in the blood plasma and controls a variety of physiological processes through binding to the ligands ANGPTL1 (also known as VEGF-A) or ANGPTL2 and mediating their actions. The function of this protein is unclear because it lacks an identified ligand that can interact with it. It is not a tumor marker and does not have any clinical significance. It was identified by passive immunization of patients with an anti-angiopoietin receptor antibody as a novel protein in the plasma. ANGPTL3 has also been shown to be expressed in lymphocytes, granulocytes and monocytes in the process of differentiation. from common lymphoid progenitor cells.

INTENDED USE

Mouse ANGPTL3 ELISA kit is designed for analysing quantitative amounts of angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3) in mouse serum, cell culture media and plasma samples. This assay has a minimum sensitivity detection limit of 0.04 ng/ml.
