INTRODUCTION
Interleukin-23 (IL-23) is expressed by immune cells including; dendritic cells, macrophages and T cells. The expression is induced in response to inflammatory signals such as those produced during infection or tissue damage. It is secreted by activated T cells and dendritic cells, which may contribute to the initiation of autoimmune diseases. IL-23 induced by activated T cells is a potent inducer of type 1 T helper (Th1) immune responses, which are important for fighting bacterial infections.
In contrast, expression of IL-23 induced by dendritic cells or other immune cell types induces type 2 Th2 responses, which are important for fighting viral infections and allergic responses but have no known function against bacteria. Additionally, various forms of autoimmunity and illnesses like chronic or enduring graft-versus-host disease are thought to be affected by it. The receptor is known as the IL23R gene. The gene itself is called the IL 23 gene.
IL-23 cytokine is structurally similar to IL-12, with both cytokines sharing a common p40 subunit. However, the p19 subunit of IL-23 is unique and is not present in IL-12. It is a cytokine that promotes inflammation and activates Th1 and Th17 responses. It controls eosinophils, natural killer cells, B cells, T cells and neutrophils. It binds to the IL-12 receptor complex on T helper (Th) lymphocytes and activates them by enhancing cyclic AMP production. Its expression may also be associated with Th2 cell differentiation.
INTENDED USE
Mouse IL-23 ELISA kit is designed for measuring concentration of interleukin 23 (IL-23, IL23A, IL-23p19, SGFR) present in mouse plasma, tissue homogenates, serum and other biological fluids.
