D-Dimer ELISA Kit (D2D)
INTENDED USE
Human D-Dimer ELISA kit can measure concentrations of D2D (D-Dimer) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
INTRODUCTION
D dimer often referred to as D2D or D D is a substance produced when fibrin, a component of blood clots breaks down. Sensitive tests using D dimer can help rule out thrombosis and disseminated coagulation (DIC).
D dimer consists of two interconnected D fragments that are formed from the breakdown of fibrin during the process of a clot. When the body activates the fibrinolytic system to dissolve a thrombus D dimer is generated. This molecule contains two units of monomers. The presence in the blood indicates both clot formation and ongoing activation of coagulation.
Measuring levels of D dimer is valuable in excluding thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism in low-risk populations. If levels are within the range, it highly suggests that there is no presence of a clot. Additionally D dimer tests are useful in diagnosing DIC – a condition characterized by clotting and excessive fibrinolysis. Elevated levels correspond with the severity of DIC. It can aid in monitoring this conditions progression. However, it’s important to note that while elevated levels indicate issues mild increases may also be caused by other conditions. Therefore, careful interpretation, within a context is necessary when evaluating results.
