Chemerin ELISA Kit (CHEM)
INTENDED USE
Human chemerin ELISA kit can measure concentrations of CHEM (chemerin, TIG-2, TIG2, retinoic acid receptor, tazarotene induced 2) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
INTRODUCTION
Chemerin is an adipokine and chemokine implicated in diverse physiological processes ranging from immune cell recruitment to metabolism and adipogenesis. While expressed in various tissues, active-chemerin is largely produced from precursor prochemerin by inflammatory and coagulation serine proteases. This links its regulated activation to tissue injury and infection. The chemerin receptor CMKLR1 expresses on numerous immune cell types, conferring pleiotropic actions that make it an integral node connecting inflammation to metabolic homeostasis.
As a chemoattractant, chemerin plays key roles in tissue leukocyte recruitment after inflammation or damage. By stimulating chemotaxis via CMKLR1, it directs efficient immune cell migration to lymphoid tissues and sites of injury. Furthermore, its effects on macrophage polarity and secretion of proresolving lipid mediators implicate immunomodulatory roles. Hence, chemerin acts as early checkpoint shaping key aspects of inflammation.
However, chemerin signaling also holds significant metabolic consequences in obesity which constitutes a chronic inflammatory state. Its production in adipocytes regulated by cytokines and factors like norepinephrine and insulin connects nutrient stresses to adipose dysfunction. By impairing insulin signaling and glucose uptake while enabling adipogenesis and fat accumulation, chronically elevated chemerin contributes to obesity-induced inflammation, insulin resistance, and associated complications. Hence appropriate regulation is vital for health.
