INTENDED USE
Human neutrophil ELISA kit is ideal for detecting NE (neutrophil) in human samples of plasma or serum. This assay has a minimum sensitivity detection limit of 0.156 ng/ml.
INTRODUCTION
Neutrophil (NE) are important during inflammation and early combat against pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. They play a key role in mediating the anti-microbial activities via an elaborate process of releasing toxic factors, enzymes, generating re-active oxygen species and releasing neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Other functions include the ability to sense blood pH changes via their osmotic proton pumps (OPTs). They can help with wound-healing processes such as in burn patients or those who have undergone organ transplantation.
Neutrophil are representing between 50-75% of total circulating leukocytes that are present within the blood. Selectin and integrins play a key function in neutrophils exiting the blood and then entering in other tissues, this process is called diapedesis. Those unable to migrate to other tissues will undergo apoptosis and eventually be discarded by the body using macrophages. The lifespan is dependent on the following factors: Number of leukocytes in circulation (increased by active migration), presence or lack of oxygen and availability of nutrients.
Neutrophil have a short lifespan; it will undergo apoptosis when limited by oxygen and nutrients. The functions include fighting off infection, destroying bacteria, defending against pathogens and possibly serving as a messenger between cells to secrete signalling molecules that can trigger an immune response or attract other inflammatory cells. White blood cells help fight infection, destroy bacteria, defend against pathogens and possibly serve as messengers.
