IL-17F ELISA Kit (Interleukin 17F)
INTENDED USE
Human Interleukin 17F ELISA kit can measure concentrations of interleukin 17F (IL-17F) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
INTRODUCTION
Interleukin 17F (IL-17F) is a proinflammatory cytokine playing key roles in immune defense against extracellular bacteria and fungi as part of the Th17 immune response. Secreted by activated T cells and innate lymphocytes, IL-17F signals tissue cells to upregulate antimicrobial proteins, recruit neutrophils, and trigger production of other inflammatory mediators.
The IL-17 family of cytokines, elicit protective effects against pathogen infections – especially at mucosal barrier surfaces like the lungs and gut. Binding its receptor prompts tissue cells to secrete cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides while also increasing mucus production. This fuels inflammation and direct microbe elimination. IL-17F spurs neutrophil expansion and migration as well to deploy phagocytic infection-fighting cells.
However, unchecked IL-17F activity can enable harmful inflammatory pathology and autoimmunity instead of balanced immune protection. Overactive Th17 cell populations and uncontrolled IL-17F production associate with numerous inflammatory disease states like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple sclerosis. Therapeutics blocking IL-17F and Th17 signaling alleviate symptoms in many of these disorders.
