Angiotensin 1-7 ELISA Kit (Ang1-7)
INTENDED USE
Human angiotensin 1-7 ELISA kit can measure concentrations of Ang1-7 (angiotensin 1-7) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples.
INTRODUCTION
Angiotensin 1-7 (Ang1-7) is a hormone, in the renin angiotensin system (RAS) that works as a vasodilator counteracting the effects of angiotensin II (AngII). It is produced mainly from AngII by an enzyme called angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). When it binds to the receptor (MasR) Ang1-7 has effects on the heart, inflammation, fibrosis and even tumor growth by dampening AngII mediated signaling.
While traditionally seen as a hormone that circulates throughout the body Ang1-7 likely also acts as a mediator within tissues influencing responses through RAS enzymes found in organs. By inhibiting pathways that promote growth Ang1-7 regulates processes like blood pressure regulation, glucose and lipid metabolism. Tissue remodeling. This is particularly relevant in organs such as the pancreas, heart, kidney and central nervous system. In animal studies administering Ang1-7 has shown results in preventing heart failure progression. It has also been effective in reducing damage, to the kidneys after injury by improving blood flow and filtration while suppressing responses and preventing excessive deposition of extracellular matrix through TGF beta inhibition.
Considering the effects of the ACE2 Ang1-7 pathway, against dysfunction, atherogenesis, arrhythmia and hypertension typically induced by the ACE AngII pathway there has been growing interest in selectively activating Ang1-7 signaling as a promising therapeutic approach, for cardiometabolic diseases. Furthermore investigating the mechanisms underlying tissue specific 7 bioactivity could reveal new targets along its signaling cascade that can be manipulated more precisely to achieve downstream antifibrotic, vasculoprotective and cytostatic effects.
