INTENDED USE

Human CD24 ELISA kit can measure concentrations of signal transducer CD24 (CD24, small cell lung carcinoma cluster 4 antigen, CD24A, MGC75943) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples. This assay has a minimum sensitivity detection limit of 0.094 ng/ml.

INTRODUCTION

CD24 is a heavily glycosylated mucin-like cell surface protein that functions as an adhesive ligand and signaling molecule implicated in a variety of cellular processes. Though anchored to cell membranes by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol linker, it can also exist in soluble form. CD24 is expressed on immature hematopoietic cells but disappears during maturation of most lineages. Consequently it is widely exploited as a phenotypic marker to distinguish lineage-committed hematopoietic progenitors from diverse multipotent progenitor subsets.

The mouse Cd24 gene was originally discovered as a result of the profound lymphocyte deficiencies exhibited in Cd24-null mice. Through src-family kinases and downstream effectors like MAPK, it helps transduce signals from cellular stimuli to elicit functional responses—including proliferation, apoptosis, and altered gene expression—necessary for immune processes. Additionally CD24 can modulate cell adhesion and motility by recruiting cytoskeletal components.

Outside the hematopoietic system, aberrant expression of CD24 has been implicated in progression of diverse carcinoma types as well as neuronal disorders like multiple sclerosis. Malignant potential correlates strongly with deregulated CD24 transcription. Oncogenic signaling pathways converge on the Cd24-promoter, driving overexpression in transformed cells. Cell surface CD24 facilitates interactions within tumor cell niches while secreted CD24 may remodel tissue microenvironments.

I am a first time user and found that your instruction manual was very easy to follow. The insulin ELISA assay performed well and I was happy with the results that were generated.

J. Thomas
Senior Technician / Addenbrooke’s Hospital

I carried out a pilot study comparing the performance of many ELISA assay's from different suppliers and found your kits to be one of the better performers. We observed good linearity and tight replicates.
