INTENDED USE
Human CTXII ELISA kit can measure concentrations of cross linked C-telopeptide of type II collagen (CTXII, CTX-II) present is plasma, serum, biological fluids or tissue homogenate samples. This assay has a sensitivity detection limit of 0.094 ng/ml.
INTRODUCTION
CTXII is a peptide biomarker utilized to assess the turnover and degradation of cartilage. When there is collagen turnover it is produced as a result of the breakdown of type II cartilage collagen. This biomarker plays a role, in providing information about the condition of cartilage tissue and has significant applications in medical research and patient care.
Increased levels in fluids indicate cartilage breakdown, which proves helpful in detecting and monitoring the progression of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis specifically involves the deterioration of cartilage over time resulting in pain, stiffness and reduced mobility. By analyzing urine or blood serum to measure CTXII levels, early signs of high cartilage turnover can be identified. This enables measures to be taken in order to slow down disease progression through therapies and lifestyle modifications. Consequently CTXII-testing serves as a tool for managing arthritis and promoting health.
In addition to its applications in diagnosing and monitoring arthritis it also exhibits potential as an indicator for tracking recovery progress following cartilage injuries or surgeries. A study demonstrated that CTXII levels gradually decreased over a span of 24 months after implantation surgery on knee injuries involving defects, in the cartilage. This suggests that this biomarker may prove useful in monitoring the maturation process of implanted cartilage cells.
Further research suggests that the development of traumatic osteoarthritis can potentially be predicted by measuring CTXII shortly after experiencing acute knee trauma that involves cartilage damage. CTXII as an indicator of the health and degradation of cartilage has a range of applications, in research and treatment particularly in understanding the progression of joint diseases monitoring therapy responses and assessing tissue regeneration.
